Welcome to our Mazda 3 MPS section

INFO

Our latest addition to FunkyCar.co.uk is a 2008 Mazda 3 MPS super-hatch. Just for fun and before we begin, here are two wallpapers that we came across that may be of interest.

The MPS is one of the most powerful front-wheel-drive cars on the market thanks to a 2.3-litre four-cylinder engine with a turbocharger and advanced direct-injection spark ignition technology. It produces a class-leading 256bhp and 380Nm of torque at just 3000rpm, whilst accelerating from 0-62mph in just 6.1 seconds. It has an electronically limited maximum speed of 155mph but new chips on the market can de-restrict this, the actual Speedo goes up to 180.

The Mazda Sports Aero Kit is essential to an MPS so we added the kit for greater aerodynamic efficiency. This comprises of low-drag, two-spoke sports door mirrors, Eibach lowered suspension and a large roof-mounted spoiler that increases high-speed stability. The MPS has generous standard equipment inside, such as leather sports seats, steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake. This is coupled with a premium BOSE audio surround system with 6-CD auto-changer, climate control air conditioning, high power Xenon headlights, auto lights, rain-sensing wipers and cruise control.

Other enhanced features over the standard 3 are larger anti-roll bars, high-performance dampers, an aggressive nose incorporating a lowered front spoiler, larger air intake and cool fog lights. It also comes with body-coloured side skirts, 18-inch alloy wheels, sports front and rear bumpers and a large chrome exhaust pipe.

The Mazda3 MPS comes with a Limited Slip Differential (LSD) that splits torque between the front wheels and maximises traction even on wet or loose surfaces. An advanced Traction Control System works in harmony with Dynamic Stability Control to prevent oversteer or understeer. Engineered to inspire confidence, the advanced Four-wheel Anti-lock Braking System with Electronic Brake Distribution and Brake Assist provides excellent stopping power via 320mm front and 280mm rear discs.

Now the technical information is out of the way and we have run in the new engine, we decided (as ever!) to modify the car both aesthetically but also for performance gains. In Japan this car is called a Mazda Alteza, it is a Mazdaspeed 3 in USA & Canada and an MPS in Australia & UK. These countries offer an array of modifications that we will be purchasing and fitting so please check back regularly for updates on our demo car, ideas for owners and specific help with how to guides.
